Don’t Install the Wrong Awning: Be Prepared!

August 20, 2015

So you want to install an awning? Well, at first glance this might seem like a simple home improvement task. But in reality, it requires some research and knowledge about not only the type of awning you want but about your home.
We often forget that when it comes to installing an outdoor living piece, we have to know several things before we can even begin considering what we want. Here’s a quick list of things you should know before you have an awning installed by a professional:

  • What’s the Dimension of Your Home?: size matters and will help determine the type of awnings you can install.
  • Find out What Your City or Home Owner’s Association Codes Are: remember, not every city or home owner’s association has the same building codes. Find out what your limitations are before you install, otherwise you could be paying a fine.
  • What Style and Kind of Awning do you Want?: there a number of options available including fixed, retractable, slide-on-wire and more.
  • What’s your Budget? knowing how much you want to spend will help you narrow your options down.
  • Choose an Awning that Fits your Environment: installing an awning without UV ray resistance or fire retardant properties on home in the desert isn’t the right choice and may cost you in the long run.
  • Figure Out Where You want to Install: remember you can install awnings on windows, in the backyard, on the front porch, etc… Consider the areas you want to have shade and then go from there…
  • Find the Right Installer: awning installation requires a professional to install, don’t try to do it yourself, you can end up damaging your home.
