Retractable Arm Awning, Skylight Awning,
And Window Awning Care

Congratulations on your new awning! Your awning will give you years and years of shade if taken care of properly. Follow these basic rules to keep your awning functioning like new.

  1. Retract your awning when not in use.
  2. Retractable products are not meant for rain or winds over 25mph. Be sure to keep your awning retracted under these conditions. Failure to do so will void the manufacturer’s warranty.
  3. Your canvas can be cleaned just like any other awning canvas. See http://www.americanawningabc.com/blog/-awning-cleaning-care for more information.
  4. Regular maintenance is key to keeping your awning’s parts moving smoothly. Yearly or twice a year visits by our maintenance staff are recommended for your product.
  5. Do not attempt to retract a skylight awning that has rainwater collected on top of it. Water must be removed first.

Operating A Hand Crank

  1. When retracting a crank operated awning always turn the crank the opposite way you opened the item. In other words, if you turned the crank clockwise to open, turn the crank counter-clockwise to retract. Unrolling an awning completely and then rolling it up the wrong way can damage the fabric voiding the warranty.
  2. When using the crank, be sure it is in line with the direction of the eyelet. Do not attempt to turn the eyelet with the crank at an angle or you may damage the eyelet.
