Before you hire an awning contractor, remember, do your due diligence. After all, an awning project is like buying a new piece of furniture, it will be part of your home or business for years.

  • First, it’s always prudent to check and see if your contractor is licensed, bonded and insured. That means you’re protected, and they’re protected in case of injuries or accidents on the job.
  • Second, you want to make sure they listen to your needs and vision for your project. This may seem trivial on first thought, but, it’s one of the most important things to consider. A contractor who argues with you or tries to change your vision isn’t the right fit for you.

  • Third, you want to be sure they are using quality materials. You’d be surprised on the cheap fabric, frames, and other materials some contractors might use to save a buck and ultimately, cost you more down the road in repairs. Quality materials may cost just a little bit extra up front, but they save you in the long run and your awning will last.
  • Fourth, be sure the contractor delivers on time and has the right contracts in place with the right deposit fee, payment schedule, and warranties. Don’t get caught in a scam or obligation you didn’t agree to. (Always read the fine print).
  • Fifth, be sure the contractor has good customer service. Check reviews and ask your friends if the contractor you’re considering has a good reputation in your area. Remember, you don’t want to work with a company that ignores your calls.

The above list of five things are some of the most important things to consider when it comes to finding the right awning installer. Keep in mind, doing your homework on the people you’re going to work with, have in your backyard or at your business, and invest in, is just being prepared and smart and will give you peace of mind.
